100 Quilts 4 Kids!

Welcome to the third stop on the 100 Quilts 4 Kids Bloghop!

100 Quilts for Kids

I recently joined the DC Modern Quilt guild. Each year, the group runs a charity quilt drive called 100 Quilts 4 Kids, the goal of which is to make and donate 100 quilts to a charity that will provide them to kids in need. This year’s fantastic cause is the Carpenter’s Shelter in Alexandria, VA which serves over 1000 homeless children and adults each year as they hopefully transition to independent living.

I’m donating one of my “Everything Sarah Jane” quilts.  I made two of these after participating in an Everything Sarah Jane fabric swap; one for my daughter and one for ???.  As it turns out, ??? is the 100 Quilts 4 Kids project.

Everything Sarah Jane - outside picI practiced Seaweed FMQ on this one (Ok, it’s actually called Trailing Spirals, but I think it looks like seaweed!) which I thought was fitting since many of the Sarah Jane studios fabrics are watery. It’s also backed and bound with Sarah Jane fabrics.  I wasn’t kidding when I said “EVERYTHING” Sarah Jane.

Everything Sarah Jane - backing and bindingI also made some blocks for the group quilts that are being coordinated by DCMQG members using fabrics that were donated for this purpose.

If you’d like to get in on the action, there are even some great prizes in store!  You can donate a quilt, supply some blocks for a group quilt (these are both fabulous ways to use some of those orphan blocks we all know are hiding in your drawers and cabinets), or if you are local, you could come and join us for our next open meeting on September 13th at the Burke library in Alexandria for the charity sew-in!  You can find all the details you need for donating and participating on Heather’s blog: Quilts in the Queue.

“The best thing to give to your enemy is forgiveness; to an opponent, tolerance; to a friend, your heart; to your child, a good example; to a father, deference; to your mother, conduct that will make her proud of you; to yourself, respect; to all men, charity.”

This quilt is adorable. Thanks so much for donating it! Also, thanks for advertising our charity sewing day next month.

  2. I can’t imagine anyone not loving a quilt like that!
